Reduce CO2 Impact with Wood Powder Combustion

Switching to a CO2-neutral fuel is often seen as a major challenge, marked by difficult decisions and complex processes. However, with the right expertise and a quality-assured project model, the transition becomes easier. At Navitech, we have extensive expertise and long experience in both constructing new facilities for wood powder combustion and converting existing boilers and combustion chambers to minimize CO2 emissions – while maintaining efficiency and ensuring full redundancy with the original fuel that remains available.

Converting an Existing Facility

If you have a steam boiler, hot water boiler, thermal oil boiler, or combustion chamber in your production facility currently fueled by oil, gas, or other fossil fuels, you can convert it into a multi-fuel burner.

To minimize the impact on production as much as possible, the installation of the boiler is prepared during operation. Additionally, the installation of fuel storage, grinding, powder transport, and flue gas cleaning occurs without affecting production. When it’s time to switch to the multi-fuel burner, production is stopped for as short a time as possible. The conversion can then be completed relatively quickly.

Constructing a New Boiler Plant

The advantage of constructing a completely new boiler plant for climate-neutral fuel is that you get a facility entirely tailored to your needs and circumstances.

A new plant can be made more compact and better dimensioned, but the investment is usually larger.

Common Questions and Answers about Multi-Fuel Burners

Can the burner be replaced without stopping production?

Much of the work involved in converting an existing facility can be done without stopping production (such as building wood powder storage, flue gas cleaning, etc.). However, to replace the burner itself, production must be halted. The replacement can be done relatively quickly (the average time for a burner replacement is approximately 2-4 days).

Can agrofuels be burned in a multi-fuel burner?

Agrofuels are definitely a fuel of the future. In many cases, it is possible to burn agrofuels in a multi-fuel burner. However, the design of the boiler or combustion chamber needs to be adapted accordingly, and to provide a comprehensive answer to this, we need to conduct a deeper analysis. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

What are the benefits of burning wood powder?

The biggest advantage of burning wood powder is, of course, that it is a CO2-neutral fuel that behaves much like burning oil or gas overall. Additionally, since the fuel is transported and stored as pellets, it is also easy to handle in terms of both transportation and storage.
